Heres how to write a chemistry resume that works:1. Start With the Right Format for a Chemist ResumeFormat matters in a chemist resume.Just like double-replacement, you need to put the right elements in the right order. If you dont, theyll know at first blush that youre a corner-cutter. That can mean costly mistakes down the road.SoHeres how to format a chemistry resume template:Format: start with the reverse-chronological format for resumes. It places your latest DuPont-level successes up top.Fonts: choose professional resume fonts to look your best.Font size: 1112 points, but make resume headings 24 points larger.Line spacing: single to 1.15.General look: add enough blank space so you dont exhaust readers.Resume margins: one inch on all sides.File type: send a PDF resume unless the firm warns you not to.Here are the main sections of a resume to add:Header: add the right contact information.Summary: provide a snapshot of your resume in miniature.Experience: your chemistry job accomplishments to date.Education: your schooling, plus skills-based achievements.Skills: your most relevant few skills for the job in question.Additional sections: add pro association memberships, volunteering, and other attention-getting perks. Not so sure about the chronological resume format? See our guide: How to Pick the Perfect Resume Format2. Add Ex perience to Your Chemist ResumeWhats the first thing you should write on a blank chemistry resume?Your work history. Thats the best way to get things fizzing. Then go back and add your summary and heading when youre done. But so many chemists fail at thisYou cant just list your chemistry experience.Thats like throwing elastomers at the wall and hoping they stick. Sure, the hiring team might see something they like in there. But you need to tailor your resume to get the job. That starts with an experience section that bonds to the job description.Include:Job title(Analytical Chemist, Process Chemist, etc.)Company nameWork dates with monthsShort chemist job descriptionSuccesses that prove youve used skills in the new companys job descriptionA key achievement that pops like hydrogen fluorideAlso, target your resume so it fits each job you apply to. Last, use the PAR (Problem-Action-Result) formula and resume action words for interesting reading.See these chemist resume samples:Chemist Res ume Job DescriptionRightExperienceChemistJohnson MahoneyOct 2016 to Jan 2020Developed innovative processes and products for a key player in the food industry, using practical and theoretical knowledge.Used organic synthesis to develop 40+ new flavors. If your resume is on the inert side, heat it up with volunteer work.Second Languages on a ResumeDo you speak Spanish? German? Russian? Languages look extra good on resumes when other employees in the firm speak your second language too.Awards and HonorsDid you get awards in school, or win the Alfred Stock Memorial Prize? Honors and awards can show your skills arent lacking an electron.Conferences Attended or Spoken AtAttendance in chemistry conferences like Organic Process Research and Development shows youre not just marking time. Bonus points if youve led a panel.Resume Licenses CertificationsDo you have certifications or licenses thatll make the hiring team sit up a nd notice you? Your SMART New Years Resolution - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Your SMART New Years Resolution - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career How many New Year’s resolutions have you made that weren’t smart? For that matter, how many have you made that you can even remember? Outside of my ones about a boyfriend and more exercise, not only do I not remember mine, I clearly don’t keep them. (Or I would still be relishing my successes.) That’s about to change. This year, as the ball is lowering in Times Square and you’re filling your glass with champagne, turn to the dearest person in your life and say, “Let’s toast to my New Year’s Resolution. I’m going to have a recognized brand by this time next year.” Let me know your Significant Other’s reaction. A brand quiz Let’s do a quick association test. Say the first word that comes into your mind when you see these company names: Volvo: BMW: Ford: Edsel: You: You raced right through the first four, didn’t you? Safety, performance, truck (okay, that’s where my brain goes), and failure are reputations that the companies have worked hard to associate with their products, even the “failure” one with Edsel. Do you pass an association test? Does a key word or reputation pop out of your mouth when you’re looking at “you” on the list? Now’s the perfect time What key word would you like to be associated with by this time next year? You can pick out a “soft” identify (leader, communicator, team builder) or a hard one (financial analyst, software coder, bi-lingual). The act of picking one is the important part. Not to worry. You have 2012 to build on, deepen, or change what you began in 2011, but now is the time to get started. Waiting for the perfect idea to come along can freeze you into inaction, so just pick one…now! Poof! You just got SMART So you’ve chosen your goal for 2011…to have a clearer reputation as a leader by the end of the year, let’s say. Bravo. Now, how do we make it SMART? George Doran introduced SMART goals in 1981 in The Management Review as a way to make things happen. Goals like, “I’d like to be a better leader” are New Year’s Failures because they’re too vague. Meet his five requirements for your own brand goal and you’ll reverse any vagueness that may have plagued you by the next time you wear party hats and make champagne toasts. A SMART Goal is: S: Specific M: Measurable A: Attainable R: Relevant, Results-focused T: Time-bound Making your brand SMART How could you convert your goal to be known as a leader into a SMART goal? “I’ll volunteer to lead the integration project that starts in February and have positive evaluations by my team on leadership skills using a 360 assessment. We’ll have the IT, financial, and human resource consolidation plans agreed upon by Q4.” You couldn’t get much SMARTer than that. Do you see all five parts of the SMART goal definition coming into play? Can you imagine what pulling that off will do for your brand as a leader? Pick something big and hairy You don’t need to be timid and shoot too low with the goal you’re going to pick to demonstrate your brand. Leading the company picnic isn’t going to get you the bonus points that you need to advance your career and paycheck. As long as you meet the SMART goals test, you’re not going to choose a goal that isn’t “Attainable.” Be “Audacious.” After all, you have a whole year to do it. Let’s meet same time, same place, next year and compare notes. You’re going to be easy to find because your brand will be glowing. 8 simple rules for waiting to hear back from a recruiter - Debut

8 simple rules for waiting to hear back from a recruiter - Debut So youve aced the interview but now youre in the dead zone waiting to hear back from a recruiter. Like the month of January, the whole experience can feel like an eternity. But sometimes to get to job heaven, you have to sit around in purgatory for a little while. As with everything in the world of work, theres a right way and (several) wrong ways to do this. Swat up on these dos and donts and make sure you know the etiquette for this truly trying time. Do follow up Its a nice thing to do post-interview, just to send them a note to thank the recruiters for their time. It links the black-and-white text version of you and the real you in their minds. Plus, if you do it right, it help will distinguish you from the other candidates as someone whos humble, grateful and a good communicator. Dont follow up too much Notice how we said a note. ONE note. Really you should be contacting the recruiters no more than three times in the two weeks following the interview. Its just like online dating, you wanna look interested but you dont want to look too interested. Appearing desperate will undermine your case for the job, so under no circumstances should you double text! Do continue the conversation If you do decide to send a follow-up email or two afterwards, theres a certain way to do it. We like to call it continuing the conversation. This is where you pick up on something you said during the interview and develop it. It usually starts with something like Its interesting you mentioned X because, then you drop a little bit of evidence e.g. something from your portfolio to support the point. This allows you to communicate anything you werent able to in the interview and shows enthusiasm without being creepy. Dont pressure them for a decision If you wanna appear completely neurotic and discount yourself right away, this is definitely one way to do it. Employers are already stressed enough with the lengthy and expensive process of hiring someone without you badgering them. Trust us, when they have something to tell you, theyll tell you. Do apply for other jobs Just because youre in the funnel for one job doesnt make you married to it. Indeed, its a better idea to keep your options as open as you can. Wed encourage you to keep applying and interviewing for other things, not only to stay busy, but so that if you dont make the position, youll have something else lined up. Dont lie about other offers you have You might think this makes you appear more desirable but honestly, it doesnt make the blindest bit of difference. You really shouldnt be telling employers about other offers you may have unless you seriously plan to take them. And if you dont have them, you definitely shouldnt make them up. Recruiters may feel somewhat blackmailed by you and if they do, itll all backfire on you pretty quick. Do keep yourself busy If youre not blessed to have another interview coming up, dont sweat. Just find other ways to keep busy. If youre in a job already, throw yourself back into it and try to rediscover your passion for it. If not, indulge yourself in one of your hobbies, teach yourself a skill. Hell, watch your favourite show on Netflix. It doesnt have to be productive. Dont stress At the end of the day, just relax. If you havent heard back for a while, its because recruiters dont take their decisions lightly and because youve given them a lot to think about. Let them do their job and dont let it get into your head. Whether you get the job or dont, life goes on regardless no decision is the be-all or end-all. 5 ways to be more likeable in absolutely any situation - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

5 ways to be more likeable in absolutely any situation Have you ever met someone with real charisma? As soon as they walk in a room, they have a presence. People know theyre there. Rock stars and actors often have it, and many self-made millionaires do too. Charisma and real success are almost synonymous with each other. If people generally like you, then its like living life on easy mode. True charisma is very difficult or even impossible to learn. Often it comes attached to classical good looks, money, and the right type of upbringing. Many of us lack these things. But there are easy ways you can make yourself more likeable. So while were not saying youll become Angelina Jolie or Barack Obama , we can level you up very quickly with a few simple tips If youre looking for your perfect job, then being more likeable will help you to excel at interview. Its not always the most qualified candidate who gets hired. Sometimes its just the person the interviewer happened to most get on with. Even when working with a recruitment agency, it’s important to make a good impression. This will ensure that you get introduced to their best clients. 1. Assure people youre not that person You know the one. Social limpets who cling on to their target even after the conversation goes downhill. People who dont know how or when to walk away. Its awkward for everyone, and people fear these interactions. But theres an easy trick that lets you assuage these fears almost immediately How would you feel if someone came up to you and said something like: Hey, Im just on my way over there, but I noticed that youre from Acme Widgets, and I wanted to quickly ask you Isnt that a nice way of putting it? If you get on like a house on fire then you can still chat for hours, but theres no pressure. Any hint of an awkward silence, and the person can bail without hurting anyones feelings. So our number one tip is to establish time constraints for new social interactions. 2. Ask, dont tell A golden rule of conversation is to ask questions. When you ask people about themselves and show youre interested (see below), they like you a whole lot more. At the same time, you dont want to be breaking someones flow every five seconds to ask them something. So capitalise on this. When the conversation reaches a natural lull, rewind it a bit. If you say something like: So, you were talking before about working in Italy, and Id be really interested to know By taking the conversation back a step, you show them that you were actually paying attention. Way too many people think that being a good listener is all about nodding your head while glazing over. 3. Strike a pose Although its not a substitute for actual conversation, body language is important. Remember to smile, nod, and look people in the eye. Not too much though. Again, you dont want to be that person. If you feel like you might be staring someone out, then a great trick is to look at their mouth. Alternating between the two things shows that youre interested, without creeping anyone out. There are many, many articles written on body language and how you can mirror it and this can be a great idea. But a lesser-known technique is power posing. It may seem a little silly at first, but power posing can provide a massive boost to your confidence levels. And people love a confident person. 4. Ask for help When you ask people questions, you neednt limit the subject to their life or experience. In fact, once youve found out a bit about a person, it can be a great idea to ask them for their help and opinion on something. Picture it. If someone you were talking to asked you something like: Ive got this problem with something Im designing at work. You sound like you might be the perfect person to talk to about it any ideas? We bet youd be pretty happy they asked. Giving people a bit of an ego boost is seldom a bad thing. By asking for help, youre showing that you think theyre equal to or above rather than below you. Want to know the secret to being a rock star? Making other people feel like a rock star 5. Make it natural One rule that applies to each of the four above is that you should come across in a natural manner. Notice that we say make it natural, rather than make it seem natural. All the questions you ask; all the body language you put across, should be natural. And theres only one way to do this. Practice. So where do you start? Well, a good way to begin is to think of a role model that youd like to emulate and put yourself in their shoes. What would they do in this situation? Once you put yourself in a role in this manner, youll begin to find the whole process easier. Itll separate you from your normal state and put you into one where youll be able to mix things up a bit. Conclusion Taken on their own, each of these techniques might help you in some small way to be more likeable. But put them together and youre going to see some serious effect. Some (like remembering to smile) are super simple, but easy to forget in the heat of the moment. Other ideas might be new to you. But the key to everything here is practice. Get out there and network. Meet people. The more you do it, the more youll learn. Do it the right way, and youll become more and more likeable. Youll also find it more easy to spot people youd like to work with. Any questions? Let us know below. About the author: Matt Atkinson is a content writer with a PhD in Communication Studies. He loves to write about how people can better themselves and be happier.
